This listing is for a McIntosh Mac 1700 Tube/Solid State Hybrid FM Stereo Receiver Very Nice Condition. The receiver is in good working condition and sounds very nice.  The cosmetics are in very nice condition as can be seen in the pictures and especially for a receiver of this age. Mac 1700 Radio McIntosh Audio Company; Binghamton, NY, build 1967, 10 pictures, 8 schematics, 8 tubes, 39 semiconductors, United States of America. ELECTRICAL: Stereo. Hybrid (Solid state preamp and power amp, tube tuner). 40w/ch into 4 or 8 ohms. Response 20-20kHz (+0.5 -0.5dB). Noise and hum: power amp -90dB, aux -75dB, phono -76dB below 10 mV. Damping factor 100. Input impedance: aux 250k, phono 47k, tape head 500k. McIntosh 1700 The famous “Mac” series of receivers This near mint McIntosh 1700 receiver is fully featured and a “hybrid” yes the FM stereo tuner is all tube and the pre-amp and outputs are solid state. They actually sound very good.

Reviewed Nov 30th, 2013. As with most of the McIntosh transitionals the 1700 was certainly exceptional for the engineers target market. With fluent deep (also comped ) bass, Mac's understood and rarely compromised midrange and superior warm hi's.

McCoy MAC 1700, NAV/COM King conversion:
$610

You are looking at one of my spare MAC-1700radios. This is a good working unit that I purchased as a spare, but haveused on several occasions. I put it in the airplane and checked it tomake sure it is working. All COM and NAV functions seemed fine. Icannot warranty this item as I am not a shop, but what you see is what youget. I also have a tray available for an additional if you needone. I am selling the airplane and do not need this anymore.

On May-20-13 at 12:28:23 PDT, seller added the following information:

*** IMPORTANT*** I made a mistake on these units!!! It appears that I got the pictures mixed up! The picture of the front that you see here is the correct one; however, the unit it is attached to is the converted KX-175B, so different part number and different serial number. I mistakenly shipped the KX-170B and I am working with that customer now. Feel free to retract your offers if you feel it necessary.

AM/FM Stereo Receiver (1982)

Description

The phono amplifier in the MAC4100 uses a new high technology integrated circuit operational amplifier. Its differential input stage has been optimized for low noise and low distortion performance.

Electronic input selector switching uses field effect analogue switches. The mechanical input selector simply switches small amounts of DC which turn the FET analogue switches off or on. This design eliminates degradation of frequency response and also eliminates noise pickup from long signal paths necessary with conventional mechanical switching. It means, as well, that switch clicks and pops have been eliminated.

The equalizer amplifier is constructed with ion implanted junction field effect operational amplifiers. These new devices amplify signals with a 6 dB better signal to noise ratio than their bipolar counterparts.

Amplifiers are capable of delivering large quantities of power when they are driven to clipping. Clipping is caused when the amplifier is asked to produce more power output than it can deliver with low distortion.

Mac

The MAC4100 has a built-in waveform comparator that compares the wave shape of the input signal with the output signal. If the disparity between the two signals exceeds 0.5% a front panel signal illuminates in red at the top of the power output indicators, with any further increase in distortion the Power Guard circuit will operate.
